  • Well, as you can all see this is my first post after several months diligently taking notes (often into the wee hours) on mileage runs from all of you. I just booked and purchased the following on continental.com:

    CO 101V 01MAR LAXIAH 115A 616A 757-200
    CO1710V 01MAR IAHEWR 745A 1205P 757-200
    CO 621V 01MAR EWRIND 345P 601P 737-300
    CO2016V 02MAR INDEWR 1115A 111P RJ145
    CO 51V 02MAR EWRIAH 455P 745P 777-200ER
    CO1687V 02MAR IAHLAX 845P 1034P 767-400

    Base fare: $126.51
    Taxes/fees: 50.99
    TOTAL.................$177.50

    Base miles: 6898
    Bonus miles: 8618 (CO Platinum)
    Online booking bonus: 1000
    TOTAL MILES..........16516

    Cost per base mile: $0.0257
    Cost per mile: $0.0107

I did a conservative 6 segment domestic trip since anything more just tires me out right now. I know many of you have easily mastered 10-12 segments in a mileage run, but I prefer to earn status by miles instead of segments. I guess I'll start off on the safe side, that's why my shortest connection time is 1 hour. I've read several posts about ATC and weather delays to/from EWR.

I welcome any comment or suggestion you may wish to contribute regarding this mileage run.

  • Welcome to FlyerTalk!

The only thing I can see is that you do have an overnight in IND, but I'm sure you already knew that. Some people like to red-eye out of the West Coast to meet their overnight stay requirement and avoid hotel charges.

It's also good to note that you managed to secure mainline aircraft EWR-IND which is excellent. Also, transiting IAH between LAX and EWR will increase your upgrade chances versus the transcon non-stops, which tend to be popular with Elites.

    Excellent first post!

I booked it on continental.com using the Multiple Destinations feature and search by schedule.

    1st Destination: LAX-EWR
    2nd Destination: EWR-IND
    3rd Destination: IND-EWR
    4th Destination: EWR-IAH
    5th Destination: IAH-LAX

The trick was on the return, when I inserted EWR-LAX and selected the connection via IAH, I received some type of invalid routing message. When I changed it to 2 segments (EWR-IAH & IAH-LAX) it priced without a hitch.

  • Great fare mr. r.

I'm trying to right now book some hops from IND-LAX or SAN or Orange County on US. I think I'm confusing US computer system!

  • In the future, try routing via FLL/TPA/MCO, and since your fare is a V class fare, availability via Florida shouldn't be too hard to find.

    e.g. LAX-IAH-FLL-EWR-IND
