Algebra problem i can't figure it out?

  • solve 3-2(x+6)=7x-4. for x.

  • im pretty sure x= -5/9

  • x=-5/9

  • 3-2(x+6)=7x-4
    3-2x-12=7x-4
    -9-2x=7x-4
    -5=9x
    -5/9=x

  • 3-2(x+6)=7x-4
    1st distribute the -2
    3-2x-12=7x-4
    then combine like terms
    3-12=-9
    -9-2x=7x-4
    then add 2x to 7x because they are like terms
    -9=9x-4
    then add 4 to -9
    -5=9x
    then divide by 9
    x=-5/9
    hope im right
    =)

  • first distribute and you get 3-2x+12=7x-4
    combine like terms and you get -2x+15=7x-4
    add 2x to both sides and subtract 15 from both sides and you get:
    9x-19=0, then add 19 to both sides
    9x=19
    divide each side by 9 and you get x=0.47368421052631578947368421052632

  • 3-2x-12 = 7x-4
    3-12=9x-4
    -9=9x-4
    -5=9x
    x=-5/9

  • -5/9 is correct.
