Harddisk high pitch noises

January 7th, 2009 by wktd
  • Ever since those new hard disc features & settings are implemented (acoustic & power management) my hard disc makes high pitch noises when reading or writing.
I've since updated some xboxes from my friends and noticed the same thing.

is this a known issue? how can I resolve it? I tried adjusting the settings but it doesn help.

  • Are you sure its coming from the HD? The reason I ask is when I have the HD shutdown selected and it powers the HD off and I do whatever to start it again I hear the DVD drive spin as though reading a disc--its a high pitch noise and at first I thought it was the HD. The thing is it never stops trying to read the disk (no disc is in it) unless I open then close the DVD tray. This happenes everytime it goes to HD shut down and since it is quite annoying I have turned the HD spindown function off for now.
