Is there nothing I can do if...

I know the websaver fares are untransferable and non-refundable but what happens in this scenario:
Say I'm booked to return to SYD on AN 70 ADL-MEL and transfer at MEL to AN 30 MEL-SYD. They show a 45 min connection time. Since it's MEL and the connexion is very easy and I'm likely to have the boarding pass issued to me in ADL for AN 30, it should be ok. But what happens if some recalcitrant person or unfortunate person/persons turns/turn up late and delays AN 70 or there's a mech problem and AN 70 leaves ADL very late? Does that mean my onward booking on AN 30 is cancelled as well and money gone, because they're not going to delay AN 30 by say, an hour.
The thing is that the last time I flew from ADL., AN 130 to SYD was delayed by over an hour; therefore if AN 70 was delayed by over an hour I'd miss AN 30. They wouldn't hold AN 30 at MEL just for me would they, if they had any sense they wouldn't?
And since the ticket is said to be non-transferable, does that mean that I'm stuffed?
Sorry if this seems like a question that seems self-explanatory and basic, but with these really cheap fares and hence restrictions, I haven't had to deal with such a situation before. In case you're wondering why I'm considering taking the longer way to get home, is because it's longer. Slightly more points for the same cheap price. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
I'd think that since it's AN's fault (if mech) and someone else's fault (if they're late because of a traffic accident or something), then AN is required to put me on the next flight? That's the ideal situation anyway. Thanks for your help!
Regards,
Clement
Recently, as posted in trip reports, I flew to BNE on a websaver ("N" class) and I missed my return flight. AN res were less than helpful, but the airport folks didn't care and just put me on the next plane - and that WAS my fault (res made it clear that I was voiding my ticket by being late - as though I did it on purpose, the airport CSR just said "no problem, sir" and rebooked me in Y. I have no idea if this was due to my *G status or because she was nice). I don't think you have anything to worry about in this situation http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The point I was trying to make was that of course if it is an airline caused delay then Ansett will pop you on the next flight etc with no fuss - because *unlike me* (who was late, and it was not AN's fault) you're there with every intention of taking your ticketed flight. The other point was that while AN reservations (and one other office I tried) were unable to override my N class booking in the system, the CSR could and did (without comment by the way she could tell by my running in the terminal that I was late, and she handled everything wonderfully from there - even trying to get me onto a just closed MEL flight without success.).
Sure, I would have been pissed if they'd forced me to buy a new one way tix and likely told me to come back the next day, but it would have been my own fault and I would have copped it sweet - I know the rules - but I was happy that the agent was good about it and I was able to get back to MEL that night, only 2 hours later than planned.
Anyway, it was the little kindness such as that displayed to me at BNE that will keep me with Ansett. Absolutely. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Obviously if a mis connection is caused by a late running flight then the airline should rebook you to the next available flight.
RichardMEL was very lucky. The airport staff should have required you to purchase another ticket.
