Mileage run? Need 2800 NWA miles

  • I need 2800 miles by years end to go from Silver to Gold NWA elite. I am from Missoula, Montana. I will be here until Dec 18. Then will spend the rest of the month in Las Vegas, Nevada. I am flexible and could do a one day run from Las Vegas somewhere. cost is a factor for me. Finding some mileage run for $500 does not feel like a victory.

    I tried travelocities dream map, but did not find anything for my dates.

    I have always heard that those willing to travel xmas day, can find amazing fare. I was willing to do a run on Xmas, but so far the fares have not been amazing at all. Does anyone know how this works? Will there suddenly be xmas day specials as it gets closer?

    So I can fly a run from Montana, or las vegas. I can fly NWA, Delta, or Continental because of their alliance?

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    NW has the following

    12/20 LAS-MSP-DTW dep 1:10am arr 9:41am
    12/20 DTW-SLC-LAS dep 11:55am arr 3:19pm

    $194.30 all-in; 3809 miles; 5.1 cents per EQM

    Long night/day but not a big outlay of cash

    EDIT: Some other options are also available for about $10 less; no connection on the return trip but return about 5pm unless there's something earlier to go stand-by on; up to you.


  • What about an exciting trip to Tulsa? Get NW credit on DL one day turnaround 12/31 for the all-in price of $148 yielding 4830 EQM. At least it's cheap!

  • The fare is $343...if you have the means to get an e-cert that should knock your fare down to the $270 range....you'll be back before Christmas and have your miles!

    Even at $270, that's 7.72c/m.. yikes.


  • If you only need 2800 miles why not try a round trip to DTW for a day. Christmas Eve has one that departs Vegas at 11:20am and gets back at 9:15pm. The fare is $343...if you have the means to get an e-cert that should knock your fare down to the $270 range....you'll be back before Christmas and have your miles!


  • I'd be real leary of a 'life-or-death' MR on 12/31; if the schedule goes haywire and your return gets pushed onto 1/1/06 .. well, you get the picture. :mad:

    MsCE & I expect to hit SE about 4 miles from last-leg touchdown this Sunday; if things get wonky, there's 3 weeks left for a quick-fix run.


  • I haven't checked specific itineraries, but I would suggest a florida mileage run, you'll get more miles for about the same price as a run to DTW, maybe even less.

    Check FLL and MCO, they usually are the cheapest FL cities to fly to.
