Solved: Vlookup - comparing data from two worksheets

January 7th, 2009 by cfz
  • Hi Guys

Thanks to Oldchippy for helping with me with my last post but now it's led me onto tackling something else....

The attached worksheet has two worksheets - sheet1 is yesterdays data and sheet2 i today's. I want a vlookup against staff number to identify the two following criteria:

    a) who has joined since yesterday's data
    b) who has left since yesterday's data

I've been playing around with it and come up with something for picking up those who have joined (I think) but struggling with leavers and would appreciate whatever you guys can throw in. Yes/No result is all I need as I can autofilter on those.

Thanks in advance for any help! :curtsey:

  • Not sure how you tell them apart, but try this in F1 and change the heading to suit

    =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet1!$A$2:$A$8,1,FALSE)),"New or Existing?","")

  • Glad to help - thanks for the feedback

  • Thanks OldChippy! Just the job and does exactly what I need. I've used the formula on sheet2 (F1) to give me the joiners since sheet1. I've then used the same formula on sheet1 to give me the 'leavers' (looking up against sheet2 to establish who had left since sheet1).

Thanks again. Those formulas have saved me so much time you would not believe!
