UA: LAS/ORD/WAS/NYC/etc-FRA/DUS/MUC/etc < $650 ai (as low as $555 )

  • I know this will raise the ire of the more anal-retentive types who think MRs have to be a penny a mile  but in the day and age of 2008 airline economics these fares look pretty good given the ability for a next-day OR same-day turn during a holiday weekend.

I found WAS-DUS for as low as $565 ai.

    NYC-FRA is $555 ai.

    Books into V.

Dates I looked at are around 11/28-12/1

    I think I will book LAS-FRA 11/29-12/1 or a same day turn 11/29-11/30.

  • Hmmm fare rules anyone ?

It should show the validity of the fare and limitations in routing...

  • I'm finding lots of good fares out of WAS on .bomb. For late November/early December, just try round trip searches ex-DCA (not IAD) to FRA/MUC and you will a) find cheaper fares than ex-IAD and b) rack up a few extra miles. :D I'm seeing some combos as low as the mid-500s.

  • Concur that this appears to be good value given oil prices. And where did you find it bookable....?

  • V is SWU upgradable isnt it?

  • united.com

Any luck going through PL and reducing this down a bit? I've tried a few options, but no luck :( too bad BMI doesn't fly there :)

  • Concur that this appears to be good value given oil prices. Given oil price, they should stop flying. Has nothing to do with how much the tickets should cost. In fact, with the Open Skies, >400 is not a steal.

  • So I booked this over the the holidays for about $550 IAD-MUC-TXL MUC-IAD open jaw. All the flights were on LH. Since then I experienced two schedule changes, apparently the LH flights went away (?) and now both of the trans Atlantics are on UA metal.

This works out great for me as they as both UA 777s and we snagged 21h/j^ which is much better than the LH 330. Just curious if anyone else experienced this kind of change? Seems weird how cheap flights were being offered on LH metal now I am on UA?

  • doesnt bd fly man-haj? that could be a routing to germany that might work with priceline - though i have never seen thrufares with bd germany-us yet...

  • The fuel surcharge is ~$200 so it should be possible to use the PL trick. You may have to mess a bit with routings though. At least it's easier than LAN.com...

can you elaborate on what is the "PL trick" ?

    Thanks !

  • Its pricing as $686 from TYS - DUS for 11/29 - 11/30 turnaround. That's pretty good for the holiday weekend. Gotta call the wife!

  • Also ex-SFO, but I can't get the PL trick to work properly.

  • IAD-DUS seems to be an S fare - so SWU's won't work on that, correct?

Was your ticket issued on UA ticket stock (ticket number starting with 016)? Then I'd say that's probably the reason why.

  • Hmm what is the earliest date to take advantage of this deal ?

bd flies to las as a ua and us codeshare. bd/lh then flies onward from man.

Indeed and you can make good use of your gold upgrades ;)

right. In theory. but has anyone gotten it to actually work?

  • IAD-DUS seems to be an S fare - so SWU's won't work on that, correct?

Correct. For the ticket I was considering, the SWU-able fare is an additional $180. Not bad, but not great either.

  • LAX/ONT coming at $733 ai

  • Found some good deals at the end of the year if you don't mind flying on Dec. 25th out of IAD. Around $550 going to FRA/MUC/TXL. I noticed most of the good fares are on LH metal priced through United.com Also was able to do multicity and create and open jaw for the same prices....

    Yes UA stock 016, thanks!

That's Priceline. It has been discussed in this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=837471. In a few words: the fuel surcharge disappears at the time of booking. There was also a PL trick with an extra city - adding US Airways flight into the itin, but I think that's long gone.

  • $647.50 for ORD-MUC. Non-stop outbound, connect through DUS on the way back.
