  • To what extent should we look for historical foundations of the myths like those of the Trojan Cycle?


  • The word cycle (from Greek kúklos = circle ) is generally applied to any group of poems, tales, or plays revolving about a central theme. Since the legends of the Theban wars and the Trojan War represent two different groupings of events, we may then say that the "Epic Cycle" contains both a "Theban Cycle" and a "Trojan Cycle".

    Trojan Cycle, narrate events that occurred before the war, during the war, and after the Trojan war. The Trojan War cycle was a collection of eight Ancient Greek epic poems that related the history of the Trojan War. Of these eight only two are in existence today, the Iliad and the Odyssey from Homer.

    These two extant tells us a lot about the ancient Greeks like the God's they worshiped, the types of ships they used, the nature of their social and political structures, and how they found their battles.
